KnowledgeDeliver is selected for the survey in Kyrgyz Republic

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) adopted “Business Model Formulation Survey with the Private Sector for Continuous Education and Development of the State Certification for the Pharmacists in Kyrgyz Republic” which was proposed by Yakuzemi Informative Education Center Co.,Ltd.(Yakuzemi)

The survey

The survey aims to improve medical education and medical standards in the Kyrgyz Republic in Central Asia in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to develop a national examination for pharmacists. The survey supports for common graduation exams in pharmacy department at universities, training for incumbent pharmacists, and trial implementation of preliminary and evaluation tests. The know-how of Yakuzemi in pharmacist education and rich experience and knowledge of e-learning are utilized in the training and the test of the survey through the LMS provided by Digital Knowledge Co., Ltd.

Current Situation and Issues in Kyrgyzstan

In the Kyrgyz Republic, the collapse of the Soviet Union and two incidents of revolution result in economic stagnation in the country. The deterioration of medical and educational infrastructures was caused by the decline in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. There is no pharmaceutical manufacturer in the country, which results in 97% of medicines are imported. In addition, the pharmaceutical education in the country does not cover the field of drug discovery forced shop staff to play a role of pharmasist. A lack of researchers and doctors creates an issue of declining medical standards, such as oversupply of antibiotics due to adhesions between doctors and pharmacies.

In addition to the declining quality of medical care, a shortage of pharmacists is obvious since there are only 5,500 pharmacists out of a population of 6 million. Completion of education in the pharmacy department in the country for 5 years provides a pharmacist license without national examination. Although the government emphasized the development of a national examination for medical specialists in the national development strategy and considered to introduce it, a lack of know-how for development is an issue.

In 2018 the government introduced continuous education for pharmacists, however, implementation in remote areas became an issue. It is essential to improve medical standards through the development of a national pharmacist examination and the continuous education system for pharmacists.

The Next Deployment

A trial pharmacists and uniform graduation examination were conducted in the context of continuous education from October to November 2019. According to evaluation and verification of the trial results, it is expected to launch a national pharmacist examination, continuous education for pharmacists as a business, and expansion of e-learning to local areas in future.
